New Wayzata H.S. Scoreboard Debuts Aug. 23

Project SCORE is working to have a new, updated scoreboard for use this fall at the school.

The new stadium scoreboard does more than
just keep score of athletics. it is using technology to showcase academic, musical, theatrical and community service achievements as well.

The project, dubbed Project SCORE, is the initiative that replaces the aging, obsolete high school stadium scoreboard with a digital, multi-sport video scoreboard through the generosity of community sponsorship and private donations.

It will be debuted at the first girl’s varsity soccer game on Thursday, Aug. 23 and in its full capacity at the first home football game on Thursday, Aug. 30.

A committed group of parents and community leaders have worked for two years to bring Project SCORE to fruition. In cooperation with the Wayzata School District and city of Plymouth, the Wayzata Athletic Boosters launched Project SCORE as a model to build a revenue stream uniquely for athletics through ongoing paid business sponsorships and private donations.

“Sponsorships are almost sold out and our private donation campaign will run throughout the school year,” said Matt White, current Booster President.

Technology changed everything when the committee began researching a
replacement scoreboard. The digital board supports scoring for all seven stadium sport teams that are girls and boys soccer, lacrosse, track and football. The video display technology provides the showcase to celebrate the many successes of the WHS student body.

Lacrosse Booster Representative, Ron Fiemann agrees, “This is my personal favorite - we will be able to promote non-sport activities and school successes on the video board. We can promote math club, the musical, the debate team, and other activities which deserve recognition.”

The high school students in teacher Jean Zimmerman’s Advanced Television
Production classes will be the producers of the student videos and other scoreboard content.

“This project provides excellent opportunities for our broadcast television students to produce, film, direct and edit events for the school. It raises the bar on the content and quality of their work and is a true model for what they will experience in their careers in the media industry,” said Zimmerman.

Project SCORE is committed to celebrating the excellence of WHS students both
on the field and off the field. “Project SCORE is a great example of the community coming together to support and celebrate our kids,” shared Superintendent Chace Anderson.
