The Bridal Spot Store Closes in Plymouth

As of mid-January, an eviction notice was at the store site at Waterford Plaza in Plymouth and the store was vacant.

 

The closure of a Plymouth business has left a lot of questions – without many answers.

The Bridal Spot, located at the Waterford Plaza in Plymouth, closed at the end of December 2012, according to a Star Tribune report.

The store’s owner started clearing out the store after Christmas and all merchandise was removed by New Year’s Day, property manager Martha Anderson recently told the Star Tribune.

Since Jan. 1, the Minnesota Better Business Bureau received two complaints against The Bridal Spot, according to their website. Both complaints were from customers about merchandise purchased and not received.

"I'm disappointed and somewhat angry," customer Molly Meyer told Fox9. "You put a trust in a business."

Patch was unable to reach the owner for comments. Anderson told the Star Tribune she’s “pleaded” with the owner to return calls, but has “yet to find one bride she’s answering.”

As of Jan. 15, 2013, a notice from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office had been taped to the front door of the location at 6th Avenue location advising the former tenant they were “lawfully evicted from these premises” and “subject to arrest and prosecution for trespass if you enter these premises without the landlord’s consent.”

Inside the store, The Bridal Spot appeared to be cleared of merchandise.

The 3,000 square-foot retail space reflected be available for lease, according to the Mid-American Real Estate Group website as of Jan. 23.

My daughter is getting married this summer and we purchased her dress (and paid in full) from this store. She just found out this evening and is devastated. I am so dissappointed in the owner.

I am a bridesmaid who purchased a dress from this place, as well as the others in my friends wedding that is in April. I am trying to find out more information as to who we can contact about the refund of our money, and if we will be able to get replacement dresses in time.

My bridesmaids originally ordered their bridesmaids dresses from here as well and paid in full. Luckily each of the bridesmaids paid using a debit or credit card and not cash. I had each of them call their cardmember service and file an investigation. Each of them got a temporary refund as the issuers perform an investigation. In the mean time, I've also filed a compliant with the Plymouth Police Department as well as the Minnesota Attorney General. The Plymouth PD mentioned at this time they don't have enough evidence to consider this a crime but thinking it could change as other customers voice their compliant.

I had dresses reordered through the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul and they were very helpful with our fast turnaround. Another kicker is the dresses were about $30-$40 cheaper at the Wedding Shoppe.

Lessons I've learned and will share to future brides:
1. Make sure your Bridal Shoppe has been in business for a number of years and has a good rating with the BBB.
2. Never pay cash! Sure some places offer a discount but if something goes wrong, you have a paper trail to fall back on.
