Plymouth Native, Wayzata Grad Making Romantic Paintball Movie

Paintball and love aren’t exactly spoken of in the same breath, but that’s the premise of an upcoming romantic comedy called Walk-Ons from 1994 Wayzata High School grad Ryan Stockstad, who grew up in Plymouth.

In the world of paintball, a walk-on is someone who is not part of a team or private party. According to the film’s Kickstarter page:

“A high school student nearing graduation decides to enter a paintball tournament to prove himself to the school jock and win the heart of the most popular girl in school, but his fixation may distance himself from his two best friends.”

“The paintballing sport is not represented very often in film,” Stockstad, a producer at Crowned Prince Productions, said in a video posted on the page. “We’re hoping that this movie will change that a little bit. We’re hoping that this is the kind of movie that, if you like paintball, you’ll like what we created.”

The movie is a “teen romantic comedy set in the world of competitive paintball,” said writer and director Andrew Kadikian, who’s doing the movie as his thesis film at The Art Institute of California—Hollywood. The movie blends Kadikian’s love of John Hughes movies with his love of paintball.

Stockstad and Kadikian are aiming to raise $5,000 to make the movie. The Kickstarter campaign ends Jan. 10.
