Plymouth's Original Pancake House Opens March 6

After only about three months, the Original Pancake House will soon open its doors at its new location off Highway 101 and County Road 6 in Plymouth.

Owner Ken Savik said the place will open Tuesday, March 6, after starting construction in mid-December.

The business' hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day of the week.

Savik ran the business when it was in the Wayzata Bay Shopping Center in Wayzata, the center will be torn down to make way for a new senior living facility so he had to find a new home. The Original Pancake House had been there for 18 years.

After surveying his customers they discovered most came from the north and in Plymouth.

With slightly more space in the 47,000 square feet in Plymouth, the Pancake House is in the spot where a Pizza Hut used to reside, in the same plaza center as the Minnesota School of Business.

"We are about 20 percent bigger," Savik said. "Yeah, our capacity is probably about 130."

The new place also has some new features including a breakfast bar where you can sit and watch a large, flatscreen television. There are also bigger booths and a community table area. The waiting area will also have a large, flatscreen television and a kids area to color and play.

A similar fireplace was erected in the middle of the main room, and though it looks like the one at the old Wayzata location, it was built in the middle of the room to make it available for everyone to enjoy and not just those on one side of the restaurant.

Anticipation from the community for the opening of the Original Pancake House has been great.

The employees, like manager Krista Klapprich, are looking forward to getting back to work.

"Most of our employees will be returning to work here," Savik said. "We have about 30 to 35 employees."

Though the entire location change was about six months in the making, Savik and Hunter remarked that the construction of the new site was relatively smooth, without any major issues.

"We definitely get plenty of people who are driving by, stop in and ask how we're doing and when we'll be open," Savik said.

People have been great and so supportive, Hunter said.

The Original Pancake House hours will be open 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Sundays.
