Bloody Burglar Breaks into Plymouth Business

A Plymouth man has been charged with burglarizing a Plymouth business and breaking into a vending machine last week after an employee found him covered in blood in the company’s conference room.

Michael Charles Mitty, 32, is charged with felony third-degree burglary, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by Plymouth Police Detective Darren McGann, an employee of Volkart, May & Associates – a telemarketing business in the 3400 block of Anapolis Lane North – called police just after 7 a.m. June 13 to report a burglary.

The employee found a strange man, covered in blood, in the company’s conference room.

When police arrived, they found Mitty standing with the employee, and arrested him.

Mitty told police that he had called in sick to work the day before so he could “stay home, play video games and drink,” according to the complaint.

Mitty said he drank enough to become “extremely intoxicated,” and decided to get into his car and drive around. He subsequently decided he shouldn’t drive anymore, so he stopped in the Volkart, May & Associates parking lot, found an open door and went inside, according to the complaint.

Mitty told police that he was hungry. He said he found a vending machine and broke into it to get food out of it.

Police noted a damaged vending machine, along with blood throughout the conference room and in a corner office.

Mitty is free on a $20,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled July 17 in Hennepin County District Court.
