Husband Plans to Hug ‘Hero’ for Finding His Wife Trapped in Plymouth Pond

New details are emerging in the accident that left a 67-year-old woman partially submerged in her car for 17 hours. According to KSTP, Nancy Breberg was on her way to meet her husband at a St. Louis Park hotel for a Shrine Club dinner when she lost control of her car and ended up in a holding pond in Plymouth.

Plymouth Firefighters were shocked to find the woman alert and talking after a cyclist, Geoffrey Racette, saw the car and called for help. Racette told KSTP he saw someone moving around in the car, called out to her and was even able to give her Chex Mix that he was carrying on his bike.

"She said that she wasn't able to get out of the car and was stuck in there. She couldn't crawl out the back," Racette told the Associated Press.

The water shorted out the electrical system so she couldn’t roll down the windows or use OnStar. Her cell phone got wet and didn’t work either.

Breberg’s husband, Ron Breberg, reported her missing when he couldn’t reach her Friday night. He is at Hennepin County Medical Center with her as she recovers from frostbite.

He says he is looking forward to meeting Racette, whom he calls his hero and plans to “give him the biggest hug I’ve given anybody.”
