Meet the Mayor, Quiz a Forester and Enjoy Java with Neighbors at 2013 Plymouth Sampler

Plymouth's March 16 City Sampler gathering provides a chance to meet neighbors and mingle with city leaders.

Saturday mornings are often filled with errands and ferrying kids to activities, but on Saturday, March 16, plan to fit in a few minutes to stop by Plymouth City Hall—where Mayor Kelli Slavik and Plymouth's City Council members will host the annual City Sampler from 9 a.m. to noon.

The morning promises a chance to mingle with your neighbors, the mayor and council members as you enjoy a cup of coffee and refreshments. Register to win prizes, order trees and shrubs, buy bike helmets and meet city staff members from all departments. Residents are encouraged to stop by anytime during the morning and stay as long—or short—as they’d like.

A city forester will be on hand to share information about the city’s annual tree and shrub sale—and you can get a discount if you place your order at the Sampler. You also can get advice on which species will work best for you, and ask the forester about tree care.

You can outfit your family with new bike helmets at discount prices, courtesy of the Plymouth Fire Department and North Memorial Hospital. Adult and youth helmets, which normally sell for much more, will cost $10-$15. Staff will also make sure that each helmet fits properly.

Sampler Offers Unique Prizes

The Sampler also offers some unique prizes through its drawing. Attendees can register for an array of prizes, including: a police ride along; a ride on a fire truck to the local Dairy Queen; bike helmets; a birthday party room rental at the Plymouth Ice Center along with free open skating; a tree; a trio of shrubs; a native plant starter garden with plants personalized to the needs of your yard; and more.

“The prizes showcase some of the services, programs and facilities that the City of Plymouth provides,” said Communications Manager Helen LaFave.

The City Council initiated the Sampler to give residents an informal venue to meet their elected city officials, provide feedback and get city information. The Sampler has been successful in meeting that goal. Past years have drawn from 200 to 400 people.
