What previous political experience do you have (including other governmental positions you’ve held, whether elected, appointed or volunteer)?

Campaign Volunteer

What other relevant experience do you have?

I am committed to life long learning.  I am a student of the achievement gap.  I understand first hand the relevance of wealth and opportunity in closing that gap.  I was a board member of a nonprofit and was the Treasurer.  I have also mentored and trained numerous staff in public accounting firms.  I guest lecture twice per year at a local college.  I've worked with many businesses and families regarding strategic planning.  I understand the types of skills students need to have to be competitive post high school and college.  There are too many folks in their twenties with too much student loan debt and too few opportunities.

What is your occupation?

Business owner of a financial advisory practice.

Where did you go to school?
Concordia College Moorhead, BA Music, Math Minor, BS North Dakota State University, BS Accounting  What city do you live in now?  Minnetonka

How old are you?
51

Do you have a spouse, children or any other family members you’d like to tell voters about?
Spouse Karen.  We are both very active as an aunt and uncle.

What are your campaign goals?
We need to expand the diversity of our Board and not be afraid if we don't have unanimity.  Success does require creative destruction on occasion.  What has worked in the past is sometimes replicated to its point of diminishing return.  We can maintain and improve our community using open communication and work to inform all members of the community of the work of committees of the District.  We need to be inclusive, especially in regards to the new residents entering the District.  The purpose of the Wayzata School Board should be to diversify and capture community involvement to create a dynamic education for all of our students.

8. What issues are you most focused on for the Wayzata School District?
The middle class.  I know the achievement gap is the function of opportunity and wealth.  Clubs and unofficial activities just don't stack up to the experience of having to perform when it counts.  I am concerned students can, do and will get lost as we grow.

9. Why should voters choose you?
I overcame the achievement gap.  I have taught enough and have queried so many of our teacher family members that I have a working knowledge of how people learn.  This is very helpful when my niece calls for help on her homework.  I have the financial background to understand debt and what may be possible to lower borrowing costs.  I believe technology and not brick and mortar is the key to our future.  But, we also need to work more strongly teaching in areas such as communication and languages.  We need to diversify our Board and have more entrepreneurial thinkers represented.
