A man's body found in the Minnesota River in the area of Savage has been identified, according to Scott County Sheriff's Office officials.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased as Alan Jacob McMullen of Plymouth who had been missing since Sunday. The Medical Examiner’s Office, along with Plymouth Police and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
At 11:13 a.m. Tuesday, a tow boat captain reported a body floating in the Minnesota River about ¼ mile down river from an old railroad swing bridge in Savage, according to Savage Police Capt. Dave Muelken.
Once on the scene, Scott County deputies, Savage firefighters and a coroner from the Medical Examiner’s Office were transported to the location of the body by a tug owned by Upper River Services. At that point, deputies and firefighters recovered the body and transported it back to shore. The body of an adult male was taken to the Minnesota Regional Coroner’s Office for identification, Muelken said.
Authorities believe McMullen, 33, may have jumped from the swing bridge, which is near Vernon Avenue in Savage.
Savage Police got involved Sunday after Plymouth Police called and asked for assistance with the missing person case, Muelken said. Savage Police found McMullen's car parked on Vernon Avenue near a barricade on the way to the river.
