Plymouth House Lost To Overnight Fire

A house fire around 2 a.m. May 19 was a total loss and the cause is under investigation.

An approximate $300,000 Plymouth home that was being renovated was destroyed by a fire last night.

Around 2:20 a.m. a call about an odor and some smoke came into Hennepin County Dispatch from the 18th Avenue and Kirkwood Lane area in Plymouth.

Plymouth Fire checked the area and 20 minutes later received a call of smoke and odor coming from a vacant home at 1315 Ives Lane, about a quarter mile from where crews were, said Plymouth Fire Chief Richard Kline.

"We used defensive fire tactics upon arrival," Kline said. "We know it orignated in the basement, but the cause has not been determined."

An investigation into what happened is being done. Upon arrival the first floor of the home had already collapsed into the basement, Kline said.

There were no injuries to civilans or emergency crews. Approximately 40 firefighters were on hand with mutal aid coming from Golden Valley, Minnetonka and Maple Grove.
