Man Charged with Burglarizing Plymouth Apartment

A Maple Grove man who told police that his victim telepathically asked him to destroy his belongings has been charged with breaking into a Plymouth home and damaging a television and other items.

Daniel Foster Bucher, 22, is charged with second-degree burglary, a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, compiled by Plymouth Police Detective Warren Anderson, police were called to an apartment complex in the 10500 block of 45th Avenue on April 16 on a report of a burglary in progress.

Police spoke to a woman who said she saw a man jump from the balcony of one apartment unit onto the balcony of another unit, then smash through the glass door and enter the apartment.

As the woman watched, the man flung property out the open door, she said.

Police entered the apartment through the damaged door and saw a smashed television and other damage, according to the complaint. One of the officers saw two men running away from the apartment complex; police gave chase, and the two surrendered.

Bucher resisted police attempts to arrest him, but they got him into a squad car and determined that he was the one responsible for smashing the door and throwing items out of the apartment, the complaint says. The second man was trying to minimize or prevent the damage; he was released.

Bucher told police that he broke the door and damaged the victim’s belongings because he had smoked “a lot of marijuana” that day, and because he could communicate telepathically with the victim, who, he said, wanted him to smash his property, according to the complaint.

Police contacted the resident, who said he hadn’t given Bucher permission to enter his apartment, and that he wasn’t communicating telepathically with him.

Bucher is free on a $50,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled May 8 in Hennepin County District Court.
