Plymouth Police Warn Against Burglaries

With the increase of residential burglaries, Plymouth Police give tips to prevent being a target.

Residential burglaries can be committed within seconds and an open door is an open invitation. Many people do not lock the service door between the house and garage --and what may have started as a garage burglary can quickly advance to a home burglary.

Recent Plymouth burglaries:

  • A garage door was left open and two vehicles inside the garage were entered. There is no loss from vehicles; however, a purse was taken from inside the residence.
  • The victim reported a theft from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and a theft from a vehicle parked in the garage. Entry to the garage was through an unlocked service door. A camera, radar detector and GPS valued at $778 were stolen.
  • The victim reported a purse and GPS were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway and a vehicle parked in the garage. The victim believes the garage door opener was used to gain access to garage. Value of loss unknown.
  • Victim had vehicle parked in driveway and an unknown suspect entered vehicle taking two iPods and a wallet with $15. The wallet was located a few blocks away. Value of loss $515.
  • Unknown suspect smashed the window on victim's vehicle to gain entry and stole a laptop and an iPod valued at $1560.

Crime prevention tips for home:

  • Dial 9-1-1 if you witness any suspicious activity or persons in your neighborhood.
  • Keep doors and windows locked, and close overhead garage doors at all times.
  • Lock the service door between the garage and house.
  • Make your home look occupied by using lighting and light timers.
  • Remove personal property and garage door openers from vehicles that are parked outside. Lock vehicles.
  • Ask a neighbor to look after your home when you are away (e.g., mow lawn, collect papers, water plants.)
  • Park your car in your locked garage whenever possible.
