Update Summer Apartment Fires: One Investigations Continues, Another Ends

The cause of the Willow Creek apartment fire in June has been determined while the July 12 Vicksburg Village apartment fire has not.

Two big apartment fires this summer have made news in Plymouth.

The first happened June 17 in the underground garage of the Willow Creek Apartment complex off Hwys 55 and 169.

The second happened nearly a month later July 12 at the Vicksburg Village Apartment complex on Rockford Road.

The investigation continues for the Vicksburg Village fire. According to the city of Plymouth's website, "the State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause and origin of the July 12 apartment fire in Plymouth. The investigation is standard procedure. The Plymouth Fire Department will issue a news release when the final report is available."
The report continues:

The four-alarm fire at the Vicksburg Village Apartments, 15750 Rockford Road, was reported at 3:51 a.m. There were no casualties and no injuries. About 50 to 60 people escaped from the building. Twenty apartments in the 62 unit building were affected by fire, smoke and/or water damage, according to Plymouth Fire Chief Rick Kline. Vicksburg Village Apartments and the Red Cross are providing assistance to those displaced by the fire.

Kline also said to the department's knowledge there were no pets injured or killed in the fire.

As far as the June 17 fire at Willow Creek, Chief Kline said the cause of the fire was a vehicle fire that started in the underground garage.

Two firefighters were injured during the fire, but both were released from the hospital within hours. One had a knee injury and another treated for heat exhaustion.

The Willow Creek fire was a second-alarm fire and did not extend into the apartment building. The difficulty was ventilation with the heavy smoke coming from the underground garage.
