Four Plymouth City Council Seats Open

Wards 1, 2 and 3 and an at-large seat are open this election and filing opens July 31.

If you are planning to run for the Plymouth City Council this fall, you must file for office between Tuesday, July 31, and Aug. 14.

Four City Council seats will be on the Nov. 6 ballot:

• Ward 1 Council member (northwest Plymouth) – Four Year Term

• Ward 2 Council Member (southwest Plymouth) – Two Year Term

• Ward 3 Council Member (southeast Plymouth) – Four Year Term

•  At-Large Council Member – Four Year Term

Judy Johnson is the current Ward 1 Council member and announced at the July 24 Council meeting she will seek re-election.

Jeffry Wosje came into the Ward 2 seat last fall when former Ward 2 councilmember Kathleen Murdock had to resign due to retiree benefits with her job. Wosje also announced July 24 he would be seeking election to continue in the seat.

Current Ward 3 Councilmember Bob Stein also announced he will seek re-election at the recent council meeting.

Current At-Large Councilmember Jim Willis announced he will be seeking re-election as well.

To file for office, you must be an eligible voter, at least 21 years old by the time you take office, and live in the district for which you are running for at least 30 days before the election.

The filing fee is $5. Filings will be accepted at Plymouth City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd., Mon., Wed., Thurs., and Fri., 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and Tues., 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Filings will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Please note that since the last city election, ward boundaries have been modified due to redistricting.

There are three open at-large positions for the Robbinsdale School Board. The people up for re-election would be Barbara Van Heel (current Chair), Sherry Tyrrell (current Vice Chair) and Helen Bassett.

(Wayzata School District's elections are on odd-numbered years and the district has no levy or referendum to put to voters this fall.)
