Plymouth City Manager Departs, Leaves Lasting Legacy

Aherns was city manager for 10 years.

Friday, July 12 was Plymouth City Manager Laurie Aherns' last day at work, but her legacy will last much longer.

Aherns has helped care for Plymouth for the last 10 years. She told the Sun Sailor that she will miss the city tremendously.

"It’s the special place where I’ve devoted much of my life to serving," she said. "Plymouth has been my life and, in many ways, it’s been my identity for a long time. Leaving is difficult, but it’s very exciting to think about what’s next.”

When she announced her decision to depart, she won praise from Edina City Manager Scott Aherns. She could "meld cold hard facts with sensitivity and kindness," he wrote in a message on the Edina city website.

Aherns was honored with a retirement party on June 27.
