Plymouth Council Chooses Three Ward 2 Finalists

The Plymouth City Council has chosen three finalists from the seven people who applied for the Ward 2 council vacancy.

The Plymouth City Council will interview three finalists Tuesday, Oct. 18, and one will be chosen to be the next Ward 2 council member until next year's elections.

Those chosen are Ned Carroll, James Kovach and Jeffry Wosje.

Carroll is the current Chair of the Plymouth Park Commission. Kovach previously served on the Plymouth Housing and Redevelopment Authority and ran for the Ward 2 Council seat in 2006. Wosje is the current Chair of the Plymouth Authority on Transit Committee and is the Plymouth Rotary President.

At a special meeting Oct. 11, the council discussed which of the seven people who applied for the vacancy would become finalists. Those who applied, but will not be finalists, include: Sandra Gilbert, Terry Jaffoni, Melissa Musliner and Kristin Tollison.

Each council member and the mayor gave their top three choices and the top three candidates were agreed upon from those top choices.

The council opted to interview three people and no more or less.

The council agreed that the entire pool of candidates were good.

"There's great talent here so this is a hard job for us, but it’s a good problem to have such qualified people," said Councilmember Judy Johnson. "We would find spots for all if we could."

Johnson said she liked the idea of inviting all of the applicants to stay and become involved in the city engagement process. are open now and due at the end of the month.

The council must look for a new Ward 2 council member after former Councilwoman had to resign because of PERA retirement benefit conflicts from her retirement with Hennepin County.

Each candidate will get a half hour on Oct. 18 and the council may or may not choose one to become the Ward 2 council member at that time.

Whoever is chosen will only be completing Murdock's remaining term that ends next year. The council hopes to see those who applied for the vacancy and are finalists run for the position next election season.
