Gilbert and Tollison have not been on any city commissions and committees or run for the council before.

Former Ward 2 councilmember Kathleen Murdock had to resign when she discovered that in order to get her benefits after retiring from her job with Hennepin County she would also have to terminate all PERA employment to get a pension.

Applications will be reviewed and the council will choose Ward 2 finalists Tuesday, Oct. 11, and interview the finalists Tuesday, Oct. 18. An official appointment for the next Ward 2 council member will be that evening or on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The new member will not finish out the full term, but instead be in it until next election season in 2012. Then voters will elect a candidate to serve the remaining two years of the term.
