Blue Water Theater Company Presents 'Guys and Dolls'

Cast includes student actors from 15 area schools, including those from Wayzata, Plymouth and Minnetonka.

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will be presenting the musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” at Wayzata Central Middle School on July 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for students/seniors and $14 for adults and will be available at the door prior to each performance. They can also be purchased in advance online.

Blue Water's cast includes student actors representing 15 schools in the Twin Cities, including Armstrong High School, Beacon Academy, Benilde-St. Margaret!s, Cretin-Durham Hall, Hopkins North Junior High School, Minnetonka West Middle School, Orono High School, Orono Middle School, , St. Louis Park Junior High School, St. Therese, , , and Wayzata West Middle School.

The show will be directed by Charlie Leonard, with choreography by Barb Brauch and musical direction by Kirsten Hoiseth Thayer.

“Guys and Dolls” premiered on Broadway in 1950 and won five Tony Awards in 1951, including Best Musical. The original production lasted over 1,200 performances, and has since been revived numerous times in New York and in London.

The show's music and lyrics were written by Frank Loesser, and the book was co-written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on a series of short stories by Damon Runyon.

Blue Water Theatre Company was founded in 2007. Its mission is to build and sustain a theatre community that will provide young actors with opportunities to perform, learn and experience theatre that is important, meaningful and life-changing.

Recent productions include "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "Les Miserables" and "The Wizard of Oz."
