Willmar Derails Wayzata's Hopes for Team Wrestling Tournament Bid

With a heartbreaking result in the Section 6-3A tournament in their own backyard now behind them, the Wayzata Trojans have to pick themselves up in time for this week's individual tournament, held at Mound-Westonka High Friday and Saturday. 

The Trojans dropped a 32-31 decision to Section 6 newcomer Willmar in the final, a match that was decided on the fifth criteria, number of six-point wins. The Cardinals, much to Wayzata's dismay and the shock of the home crowd, had enough pins to take the victory. 

The thrilling ending-which was vastly different than Willmar's dominating 43-16 win over the Trojans in the regular season–was set up by the Trojans' domination in the lower weight classes, and then exciting wins by Tim Karpitkski (pin) and Elijah Hollins (by tech. fall) in the late going.
