Having a bad day?!?

Having a troubling day? It may not really be that bad....

Had a lousy morning?  Things looking down and glum?

As the song say; don’t worry, be happy!  The rest of your day need not be a disaster. Today can become one of your best days ever, but you need to take these simple steps:

1. Remember the past does not equal the future.

There is no such thing as a "run of bad luck." The reason people believe such nonsense is that the human brain creates patterns out of random events and remembers the events that fit the pattern.  What happened before may not happen again.  You can control the outcome as much as possible to not repeat the past errors or mistakes.  You know more now and are conscious of what you want and how to get there.

2. Get a sense of proportion.

Think about the big picture:  Unless something life-changing has happened (like the death of a loved one), chances are that in a couple weeks, you'll have forgotten completely about whatever it was that has your undies in a bunch today.

3. Refuse to make self-fulfilling prophesies.

If you believe the rest of your day will be as challenging as what's already happened, then rest assured: You'll end up doing or saying something that will make sure that your prediction comes true.  Don't be your own worst enemy.  Concentrate on remembering the positives of the past.  Take the negatives and see what can be positive from them and move ahead armed with that knowledge.

4. Chemical Reaction!

Your body and brain are in a feedback loop: A bad mood makes you tired, you have less energy which makes your mood worse and it goes on from there. Break the pattern by getting up and exercising. Take a walk or eat something healthy.  Go see your friends.  Do something fun for yourself.

5.  Evaluate your measuring stick for "good" and "bad."

You must decide that a good day is any day that you're above ground!  Similarly,
decide that a bad day is when somebody steals your car and drives it into the
ocean, or your house blows up. Those types of definitions make it easy to be
happy–and actually difficult to be sad.

6.  Well of Wealth!

The main reason you're convinced it's a bad day is that you're focusing on whatever went wrong.   But, for everything that is going badly, there are probably dozens of things going well.  Make list, check it twice, add more items and post it where you can see it!  If you are healthy and your family and loved ones are healthy you are truly wealthy.

7. Wondrous Expectations!

Having an attitude of doom and gloom makes you see more problems, even some that really may not be there.  By facing your future with a sense of wonder, it makes you alive to all sorts of wonderful things that are going on, right now, everywhere around you.

Remember to put one foot in front of the other…..

Enjoy your day!
