Wait, slacklining? What's that?
Glad you asked. As part of a new outdoor recreation activity, Three Rivers Park District is offering slacklining at in Plymouth.
For now, the guinea pigs have been a few youth and members of this summer's Greenfit Club.
The Club meets three times a week June through August trying different outdoor activities. For the June 28 class participants got to try out slacklining.
"Our slacklines are about two inches thick and look like a seatbelt," said Three Rivers Recreation Specialist Megan Kelzenberg. "The lines will be raised up off the ground to just below knee level and tightened with a ratchet. Everyone will be supported by two spotters who will help you keep your balance as you walk across the line."
With the height of the line just below your knees, you will be able to simply step off, with the aide of your spotters, if you feel your balance shifting, she said.
"You will be surprised to feel the muscles throughout your thighs and core work to stabilize you," Kelzenberg told the class.
Look like fun? Classes for the public on slacklining are being offered through the Outdoor Recreation School at French Park this fall.
