20 Plymouth Volunteers Recognized With Service Awards (Part IV)

This video and story is four of five in a series of the June volunteer service awards ceremony in Plymouth.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the city of Plymouth's volunteer program, the city recognized 20 of its top volunteers at a recognition event June 27 at the Hilde Performance Center.

Volunteers past and present were invited to enjoy free ice cream before a performance of the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers. Then 20 volunteers chosen by a committee for their significant impact during the past 20 years were honored and brought up on stage.

Plymouth's Volunteer Coordinator Jackie Maas spoke about each volunteer or volunteer group and introduced them during the event.

Check out the video with this post that includes four of the 20 volunteers being introduced at the June 27 event. The following volunteers recognized included (blurbs quote Maas):

Claire McEwan

"Claire has contributed over 2,300 hours of service during 16 years of volunteering, although those numbers may be low, as I think Claire started volunteering for us before we formalized the volunteer program. Through the years, she has helped to welcome new residents to Plymouth by preparing packets of new information. Her nominator brought forth a very important aspect of what volunteers bring to the staff that they work with. She wrote: 'In our seven years of working together, we formed a strong friendship which made her time here something to look forward to for the both of us.'"

Kathy Osborne

"Kathy has contributed over 300 hours during 19 years of volunteering with environmental events and issues through the Parks & Rec and Public Works departments. Her nominator wrote, 'Kathy is tireless in her commitment to the environment, and she shares her passion with others in an open, friendly and nonjudgmental manner, inviting (rather than scolding or demanding) them to join.'"

Merry Anne Rosengren

Merry Anne has contributed nearly 800 hours during nine years of volunteering in the Assessing Division. She has scanned over 500 tax court files; done data entry for commercial, industrial and apartment assessments; assisted in reviewing homestead applications and much, much more. Her nominator wrote: 'Merry Anne embraces every assignment she has been asked to do with a positive attitude. Her energy and willingness to learn is irreplaceable.'"

Roman Rowan

"Roman has contributed nearly 3,000 hours – and probably a lot more that I don’t know about – during 10 years of in the Police Reserves and Senior Corps. As Captain of the Reserves, he is responsible for many of the day to day operations of the reserve unit including hiring and training of new reserves, scheduling and acting as liaison between the Reserve unit and the police department. As a Senior Corps volunteer, he provides administrative assistance to the department and assists with special projects. His nominator wrote: 'In life there are ‘givers’ and there are ‘takers’ and Roman is truly a giver!' Roman also volunteers at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in the Memorial Rifle Squad that does funeral honoring our nation’s veterans."
