20 Plymouth Volunteers Recognized With Service Awards (Part V)

This video and story is the final of five in a series of the June volunteer service awards ceremony in Plymouth.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the city of Plymouth's volunteer program, the city recognized 20 of its top volunteers at a recognition event June 27 at the Hilde Performance Center.

Volunteers past and present were invited to enjoy free ice cream before a performance of the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers. Then 20 volunteers chosen by a committee for their significant impact during the past 20 years were honored and brought up on stage.

Plymouth's Volunteer Coordinator Jackie Maas spoke about each volunteer or volunteer group and introduced them during the event.

Check out the video with this post that includes four of the 20 volunteers being introduced at the June 27 event. The following volunteers recognized included (blurbs quote Maas):

Ellie has contributed nearly 800 hours during 14 years of volunteering including work with the Juvenile Diversion project, various projects and increased responsibilities with special events including acting as an event captain. Her nominator wrote: 'Wherever there is a job to do that needs an extra set of hands, Ellie is there. She has great attention to detail and always knows the best way to get things done accurately and efficiently.'"

John Sullivan

John has volunteered nearly 4,000 hours during 19 years of service as the editor of the Grapevine, our senior program newsletter. Six times a year, he meets with senior coordinator to determine content of each issue and gets them printer-ready. He also leads the senior computer club and acts as an IT resource. His nominator wrote: 'the Grapevine is one of the main forms of communication with our seniors. It is by far and away the most common way folks hear about an upcoming event. It is such an important document and John’s volunteering has made a huge impact.'"

Floyd Wilvers

"Floyd has contributed nearly 300 hours of service during nine years of volunteering for the city during various special events and other activities at the Ice Center, including taking tickets at games, assisting with skate school registration an competitions. His not-so-very secret passion is to wear costumes during our special events including Smokey the Bear, McGruff the Crime Dog and even the guy in the red suit who shows up at Christmas. (I don’t want to say that one aloud!) One of his two nominators wrote: 'Beyond the diverse range of programs and events, his flexibility is second to none. Floyd has also encouraged his family to volunteer as well – bringing along a second generation of Wilvers to contribute to the city.' And let me tell you, when I sent out an SOS this week to all our volunteers, asking for help with the additional Yard Waste sites set up to deal with the storm damage, Floyd was the first person to respond.'"
