Environmental Fair, Club Sale and Foreclosure Help: This Week in Plymouth

Details on Wayzata High School's Class of 2013 Graduation Ceremony

Commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 31, at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis.

Graduation will take place at Mariucci Arena Friday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will not be issued; seating is on a first-come basis. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.   Current security measures at Mariucci Arena require that all bags, purses, camera cases, etc., will be searched.  Backpacks are not allowed. Lines will move faster if fewer items are brought to Mariucci Arena. Families are responsible for getting seniors to the High School Cafeteria to check-in—please drop your student off on the north side of the building. If your senior is driving themselves, they can leave their car in the front parking lot.   Senior Party volunteers will be available to check seniors in from 4–5 p.m. Students will be riding buses from the WHS to Mariucci Arena…

Wayzata High School Students Honored as Minnesota Scholars of Distinction

Several students from Wayzata High School will be honored in a May 18 ceremony.

Information provided by the Minnesota Department of Education. Forty-two Minnesota high school students will be honored Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Scholars of Distinction award program in the areas of Science, STEM, Mathematics, Social Studies, Leadership and Theater Arts. To earn recognition, a student must complete required work in Minnesota’s academic standards, demonstrate mastery of complex subject matter, and apply their knowledge and skills on challenging projects, according to a press release from the Minnesota Department of Education.  Among those to be recognized Saturday include several Wayzata High School students:  Minnesota Department of Education Deputy Commissioner Jessie Montano will be on hand for the ceremony at the …

PHOTOS: Wayzata Football Players Tackle Buckthorn

Following the buckthorn pull, the players helped fill large flower pots for planting by the residents of Boardwalk Apartments in Wayzata.

As part of the “Trojans Give Back” campaign, 28 football players from Wayzata High School pulled, chopped and tackled buckthorn, an invasive species in Minnesota, on Saturday, May 11. “The buckthorn at the McIver location had very large root bundles,” said John Berryhill, a Wayzata resident who assisted the team. “It took much grunting, chopping and rhythmic clapping to get them out. But they did it. We were all very impressed with the work ethic and enthusiasm that the players showed.” Following the buckthorn pull, the players helped fill large flower pots for planting by the residents of Boardwalk Apartments in Wayzata.  As a reward for their hard work, the players were treated to pizza donated by TCF Wayzata Branch Bank and MAP …

Three Plymouth-Area Students Win $2,500 National Merit Scholarships

The students were selected from a pool of 15,000 finalists.

Three Plymouth-area students are among the winners of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships released Wednesday, the organization announced. This year’s local winners are: The National Merit Scholarship Corporation selected the students from among 15,000 finalists in the 2013 National Merit Program. The winners are judged to have the best combinations of “accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.” The number of winners in each state is proportional to the number of graduating seniors in the state. Sonnesyn Elementary School Teacher Honored By District 281

Fifth grade teacher Jill Bryan was named Robbinsdale Area Schools Teacher of the Year 2013.

Described as “warm, welcoming and patient,” Jill Bryan, a fifth grade teacher at Sonnesyn Elementary, was named Teacher of the Year for Robbinsdale Area Schools.  “I could not be more pleased that Jill Bryan is being recognized for her talents as she is a truly gifted educator,” said Leia Ward, Sonnesyn Elementary’s Principal. “Jill has the passion and skills to help all students reach their potential.”  It is the second year the district has been involved in the competition. Robbinsdale Armstrong #1,324 in Newsweek's Best High Schools in USA

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Robbinsdale Armstrong High School as the 1,324th best high school in the country. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the United States, with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Minnetonka's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate …
