'Secret' Settlement Prompts Suit Against Boston Scientific

According to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, the Boston Scientific Corp. is being sued by patent-licensing firm Mirowski Family Ventures.

The Mirowski Family Ventures purports that Boston Scientific struck a "secret settlement" with St. Jude Medical Inc. that cost Mirowski hundreds of millions of dollars, reports bizjournals.com.

Boston Scientific has locations in Plymouth and Maple Grove. In 2011, the company was restructuring that could affect local jobs.
Mirowski Family Ventures is owned by the family of implantable cardiac defibrillator inventor Dr. Michel Mirowski. He seeks $570 million in damages, Law360 reports.

The family said Natick, Mass.-based medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific and Little Canada-based St. Jude settled six lawsuits in which St. Jude dropped claims against Boston Scientific. Mirowski argues the settlement violated a contract requiring Boston Scientific to consult with Mirowski on patent-infringement litigation, reports Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal.
