A ‘Declaration of Love’: Plymouth Man Carves Names Into Lewis and Clark Stone

Cole Randall said his wife's cancer scare caused him to scratch their names into a sandstone column that also bears the signature of William Clark.

A Plymouth man is accused of carving his name and his wife’s name into a Montana sandstone column that bears a signature from William Clark, of Lewis and Clark fame, the Star Tribune reported Tuesday.

Cole Randall, who is part of the folk duo Flora Cash with his wife, Shpresa Lleshaj, said he carved the names into Pompeys Pillar as a “declaration of love” after Lleshaj had a cancer scare.

He carved their names into the column Oct. 10, when the government shutdown left the monument without caretakers.
