The mayor proclaimed June 27 as Laurie Ahrens Day in Plymouth and Ahrens talked about her time working for the city of Plymouth.

Many people from the past and present of city government and community management came out to say goodbye to Plymouth City Manager Laurie Ahrens June 27, at Plymouth Creek Center.

The event was Ahrens retirement party, in which past and present city officials, staff, family, friends and many others came from all over to talk about Ahrens' 25 years in city government and her work as Plymouth City Manager.

Ahrens also spoke about her time with the city, the people she was lucky to work with and those who helped her through the years.

Ahrens' last day is Friday, July 12. The city has offered the city manager job to David Callister, who has worked as Plymouth's Director of Administrative Services for the past 14 months.

There were 11 applicants who applied for the city manager position. The council narrowed it down to one to be interviewed.

Ahrens began her tenure at Plymouth more than two decades ago, serving in three different positions. Ahrens served as Plymouth’s assistant city manager from 1999 to 2003, and the city clerk from 1988 to 1999. Prior to joining the staff at Plymouth, she worked for the cities of Mankato and North Mankato.

Ahrens was honored in 2009 by Minnesota Women in City Government with its Leadership Award for appointed officials.
